Nonsense: Luka Doncic ‘Trade Demand’? Dallas Mavs Fake Rumor in NBA ‘Drama’ Rankings

Luka Doncic “unhappiness”? When? Why? About what?

Sometimes, the media grabs hold of a meme – a meme that really comes from nowhere – and refuses to let it go. And it seems that’s what’s happening with a new report that centers on an old chestnut …

Adding supposed “drama” to the Dallas Mavs offseason.

A Bleacher Report ranking of all 30 teams in order of “offseason drama” places the Mavs right in the middle of the pack, and while some teams’ “drama” is about positivity (Wemby and the Spurs, for instance), B/R chooses to focus on a ghost.

B/R writes that Dallas’ so-far playoff success means an avoidance of an “alternative scenario in which, following a poor effort this past season, Dallas would have had to contend with Luka Dončić’s potential unhappiness and the scary options associated with it.”

And then B/R goes that to that well later in the story, asserting, “If Dallas has an ugly postseason exit, maybe the clock on a Dončić trade demand will start to tick a little faster.”

But … why? Who says?

From the day Luka got to Dallas, some fans and media people – maybe plagued by some sort of Lakers-related inferiority complex – immediately spoke of fears of him leaving. And yet … he’s never talked of such a thing. He’s never been in conflict with Mark Cuban or Nico Harrison or Jason Kidd.

And ominous predictions that he wouldn’t bond with Kyrie Irving have proven to be erroneous as well.

Luka Doncic is no more likely to eventually ask out than any other superstar in any other city, and is actually less likely to do so than most. And no amount of unsourced suggesting otherwise can make it so … or make it more “dramatic” than it really is.
