Le Havre AC sporting director Matthieu Bodmer has reacted angrily after the club failed to sign Chelsea centre-back Malang Sarr (25).
Les Ciel et Marine had been confident of pulling off a deal to sign Sarr, who following his loan stint at AS Monaco last season, has failed to make a single appearance for Chelsea in the current campaign. The Frenchman’s contract with the Premier League club runs until the end of the 2024/25 season, however, amidst deadline day interest from Le Havre, talks over a termination took place.
According to Foot Mercato, Chelsea and Sarr came to an agreement for the termination of his contract before the London side then came back with a different offer, to which the former OGC Nice centre-back reportedly also agreed. In the meantime, Sarr was in Le Havre and had completed his medical, however, Chelsea did not submit the documents before the deadline. As a result, Sarr, who had already travelled to France, has now had to travel back to the UK.
Sarr is reportedly irritated by the failed move, with Le Havre sporting director telling Paris-Normandie, “It is shameful what they did to him.” With Sarr not featuring in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, the Frenchman is now consigned to another six months without first-team football.
