The Saints finished the season with yet another poor performance, and now they have six key games left that might determine their fate.
Atlanta After their week off, were the Saints prepared to play? It certainly didn’t seem like it at times, but that’s a valid question. There were some positive aspects, but it goes without saying that losing magnifies the negative things even more.
It’s very disheartening that New Orleans can’t seem to grasp the concept of playing team ball and winning these games, as it’s starting to become a repeating trend for them when they lose. Nevertheless, they still believe they can win this thing, which would probably mean taking home the NFC South title, despite the current situation. But they’re sprinting.
Tyrann Mathieu stated following the game, “The truth is, we’re not the team that we want to be.” He blamed poor tackling, a failure to establish the edges, and subpar execution for the poor run defense.
“I believe we may be really hopeful and promising at times. Like, there are promising hints, but we haven’t quite pieced it together. That, in my opinion, is the most annoying aspect about it. Throughout the season, you strive to improve at a lot of different areas. Obviously, we still lead the division with six games remaining. Dennis Allen blamed penalties, fumbles, and his team’s incapacity to halt the run for their most recent defeat. With their running game, the Falcons won the line of scrimmage today rather easily. Twelve games into the season, Allen was asked whether he saw any patterns with the inconsistent play in the red zone at his postgame news conference.
“One of the things, I believe, is that once you get down there, you go from 1st-and-10, a positive gain, to 1st-and-20, which puts you behind the sticks,” stated Allen. It increases the difficulty. Although the squad is getting better, Allen feels that the red zone problems can be resolved. He said that the team wasn’t good enough today. You will undoubtedly suffer from two penalties and two turnovers, but eventually those must result in touchdowns rather than field goals. Yards are present, but points are not being scored. Allen, though, insists he saw some positive things happen on the field and that the squad didn’t regress following the bye week.
With just a little over a month remaining in the season, Allen stated, “We’re going to keep working until we get it fixed.” And that’s the message to his team: return to work and improve so they can play the Lions next week.
Derek Carr said, “We’re all in this thing together,” following the match. “To put things right, we’re going to work nonstop. We genuinely are. We are going to put our all into it. Although it hasn’t happened simultaneously yet, it will be wonderful if and when it does.”
