Arsenal has filed a complaint with the Premier League’s officiating authority, alleging that players from the other team have been abusive with their key player, Bukayo Saka.
Saka trailed behind Jordan Ayew of Crystal Palace (112) and Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle (92) in the Premier League’s 2023 standings for most fouls in the division (87). Because Saka has been the target of many fouls, Arsenal has been compelled to state that opponents can freely pelt the winger in Premier League games without facing any sort of first sanction.
The subject was discussed with the league’s refereeing authority during a routine meeting that all elite teams have with the body, according to a Mail Sport story. According to reports, Arsenal suggested that the referee should show a yellow card to the player after the 22-year-old committed his first serious foul rather than waiting for a second one.
Saka is regarded as one of the most important players in the team, and even if his current goal and assist total is just lower than it was at this point in the previous campaign, he will probably have a significant impact on whether his team wins the championship this year. Arsenal’s grievance most likely stems from the 22-year-old’s Achilles injury, which has been bothering him since the end of the last campaign. Saka suffered an injury that kept him out of action for several weeks against RC Lens on October 3.
Saka’s next Arsenal match is an FA Cup home fixture against league leaders Liverpool. On January 20, the Gunners will play their next Premier League match at home against Crystal Palace, a rival team from London. After suffering heartbreaking defeats to Fulham and West Ham at the end of December, Arsenal will be looking to recover.
