Given the little opportunities that Arsenal will likely present to him for the remainder of the season, Aaron Ramsdale may be inclined to press for a move this month. Since David Raya joined the team, the England international has lost ground under Mikel Arteta, which has led to rumours that he may leave.
Arsenal was eager to continue building on their success from the 2022–2023 season by bringing in more players during the summer transfer window.
Therefore, a midfield reshuffle saw the arrival of Kai Havertz and Declan Rice, along with the acquisition of Jurrien Timber to add depth across the backline.
In order to compete for the top slot at the Emirates Stadium, Raya was also signed on a loan-to-buy agreement from Brentford, and he hasn’t looked back since. In addition to starting in goal for five of Arsenal’s team’s Champions League games, the Spaniard has participated in 15 of the team’s 20 Premier League games this season.
Although the former Blackburn Rovers player has had setbacks since joining the Gunners, Arteta still has faith in him and he is still his first option in goalkeepers. In contrast, Ramsdale is now only a possibility on a rotating basis in north London.
According to reports, the former Bournemouth custodian is set to stay with Arsenal for the rest of the season, though recent performances may trigger a change in opinion from the club’s higher-ups.
Arsenal are currently out of both domestic cup tournaments, where Ramsdale played the most regularly, following their 2-0 FA Cup loss to Liverpool. If this trend continues, it is difficult to imagine the 25-year-old making many more appearances this season.
With the Euros on the horizon, Ramsdale will undoubtedly be concerned about sitting on the bench for the rest of the season.
It would not be surprising if the custodian decides to pursue a move rather than try to force his way back into the Arsenal team, which appears to be a difficult task given that he has done admirably when called upon but has yet to play regularly in the Premier League.
A large bid from a top club would undoubtedly test Arsenal’s resolve, and player pressure might play a key role in how negotiations progress.
Ramsdale had previously been connected with both Newcastle and Chelsea, and the thought of playing for either regularly would almost likely reignite his hopes of participating in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the summer.
