Levi Colwill is battling to face Liverpool after missing Chelsea’s training on Monday.

The 20-year-old defender will need to go through Tuesday’s training unscathed to travel with the squad to Anfield on Wednesday.

Colwill missed Friday’s 0-0 FA Cup match with Aston Villa after retiring from the warm-up due to hamstring stiffness, but Chelsea feel the injury is mild.

Mauricio Pochettino wants the England international back for the game against Liverpool, but he was unable to train on Monday.

Alternative defensive alternatives include Benoit Badiashile, who would replace Colwill at centre-back, and Ben Chilwell, who will most likely play left-back.

Chilwell was a substitute against Villa and should be fit to start his first Premier League encounter since September having only recently returned after four months out.

If Colwill is unable to face Liverpool, he is believed to be available to face Wolves on Sunday.

Christopher Nkunku and Trevoh Chalobah were back in training and could make the bench at Anfield, although their reinstatement will be handled with caution because to previous fitness difficulties.

He stays out for Liverpool, joining Malo Gusto, Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Wesley Fofana on the bench.

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez returned to training on Monday for the first time since injuring his knee in early September. It is a positive step forward in his continued recovery.
