Darren Rizzi, the New Orleans Saints’ interim coach, has a chance to earn the full-time head-coaching job depending on how the team finishes the season. Rizzi has made a positive impression on the Saints by winning his first two games, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Fowler adds that if Rizzi can finish the season with a 5-3 record, he would have a strong case for the permanent head coaching job. The Saints have a manageable schedule ahead, with winnable games against the Giants and Raiders. However, matchups against the Rams, Commanders, Packers, and Buccaneers may prove more challenging.
Despite the tough games ahead, the Saints are coming off home wins against Atlanta and Cleveland, and Rizzi has changed the culture around the team since taking over for Dennis Allen in Week 9. Rizzi’s enthusiasm and player-friendly changes to practices have made a positive impact on the team.
However, even if Rizzi puts together a strong finish to the season, the Saints may want to be cautious about removing the interim tag. History has shown that teams that do so may not always get the desired results.
Rizzi’s chances of becoming the full-time head coach will depend on how the team performs in the remaining games. If he can lead the Saints to a strong finish, he may just find himself in the running for the permanent job.
