He extended his UFC winning streak to seven fights and won the UFC middleweight championship in the process.
Adesanya, who predicted Du Plessis to win before UFC 297, watched the fight from Canada on his YouTube channel.
Following the duel, Du Plessis’ brother was heard criticising Strickland’s reign.
“What a reign, though,” he continued, prompting ‘The Last Stylebender’ to burst out laughing. Check it out below.

When the South African fighter called him out, Adesanya responded with a stony expression.
“Israel Adesanya, get your ass back to the UFC so we can settle the score,” he urged Daniel Cormier inside the Octagon.
The Nigerian-born New Zealander has not fought since his shocking loss to Strickland in September.
After previously stating that he was taking a sabbatical from competition, it appears like the 34-year-old will return to action this year.
And Du Plessis likes the notion of inviting him back to the cage at UFC 300, which is set for April 13.
“I’m up for another round if they want to go,” stated the new UFC middleweight champion. “Yeah, I don’t want to set a deadline, but UFC 300 sounds amazing.
‘DDP’ added, “It’s not personal. It is not personal at all. That is exactly the type of fight people want to see. I want to fight the greatest competitors. There are a lot of men I’m going to fight, but the fans want to witness Israel Adesanya versus Dricus du Plessis. There has already been a lot of hype about it.
“If the fans start retreating and don’t want to watch Adesanya, we won’t fight. It’s alright with me. I do not care who it is. But that’s just the fight that comes to mind that I believe the public would like and that would pique their interest.”
