The Houston Texans have suffered a significant blow with the loss of starting safety Jalen Pitre to a season-ending injury. Pitre’s partially torn pectoral muscle requires surgery, and his recovery will extend beyond the end of the 2024 season.

Pitre’s absence will be deeply felt by the Texans’ defense, which has relied on his versatility and playmaking abilities. Veteran safety Jimmie Ward has taken over Pitre’s role and is expected to continue in that capacity for the remainder of the season.

In addition to Pitre’s injury, the Texans will also be without starting offensive lineman Juice Scruggs for at least two games. Scruggs suffered a foot injury in Week 13 and is not expected to undergo surgery or be placed on injured reserve.

The Texans’ offense will need to adapt to Scruggs’ absence, with Kenyon Green potentially returning to his old spot at left guard. Green was designated to return from injured reserve on Monday, and his status will be closely monitored in the coming days.

The loss of Pitre and Scruggs presents a significant challenge for the Texans as they pursue the AFC South title. However, the team will rely on its depth and the ability of other players to step up and fill the void left by these two key contributors.
