Powerhouse heavyweight Zhilei Zhang exudes confidence, claiming he’d handle Britain’s Daniel Dubois with ease in an exhilarating clash of heavyweights.
Zhang has stamped his authority on the division, securing consecutive stoppage victories over Joe Joyce in 2023. These wins catapulted Zhang into the mandatory spot for the WBO world heavyweight title, currently held by Oleksandr Usyk. However, with Usyk set to face Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight title on February 17, Zhang finds himself patiently awaiting his chance at glory.
In the peak form of his career, Zhang is eager to stay active. One intriguing potential opponent that has surfaced is Daniel Dubois. Following Dubois’ comeback win over Jarrell Miller last weekend after his loss to Usyk in August, Zhang acknowledges the 26-year-old’s performance at the “Day of Reckoning” but also issues a cautionary note for Dubois if their paths cross in the future.
“I’d say it could be premature for him to step into the ring with me. I recognize his potential, and I see his mental strength growing, maybe a fight or two down the line would be more fitting. Right now, it’s probably a bit early,” Zhang shared with FightHype.
“It should be smoother than the Joyce fight. I’ve been closely monitoring these guys, keeping a keen eye on them, so it should be a relatively straightforward challenge.”
