Afghanistan, previously with only one World Cup victory before the 2023 tournament, secured a commendable sixth place in India, winning four out of nine matches. Despite initial speculation about Jonathan Trott’s departure after 18 months at the helm, he has chosen to continue leading Afghanistan.

Trott will guide Afghanistan in the upcoming T20 series in the United Arab Emirates and is set to lead them into the T20 World Cup in June. The team’s busy schedule includes three T20s in India, followed by a tour to Sri Lanka encompassing three T20s, three one-day internationals, and a Test match.

Having assumed the coaching role in 2022, taking over from former England international Graham Thorpe due to a serious illness, Trott has steered Afghanistan to victory in a T20 series against Pakistan and an ODI series against Bangladesh.
