Liverpool are considering a different road than the preferred pick of Xabi Alonso as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

Liverpool are considering a number of candidates to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the conclusion of the season, with one name leading the discussion.

Jurgen Klopp stated on Friday that he would be quitting Liverpool at the end of the season, citing a lack of energy as the primary reason.

Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, rapidly appeared as the apparent candidate for Klopp, given his performance at the top of the Bundesliga and his previous Liverpool ties.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Liverpool management prefers Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton and Hove Albion to become the next manager, ignoring the bookmakers’ pick, Xabi Alonso.

“Roberto De Zerbi is another manager who has been discussed internally as a favoured candidate. So this name will definitely be on the shortlist,” Romano told GIVEMESPORT.
“Let’s see who else will be on this list. Let’s see what the new director decides about who is the ideal manager for the new project after Jurgen Klopp.

“It is never simple to come into a club like Liverpool and make an impression on the same scale as Jurgen Klopp. They will consult internally, choose a new director, and then select a new coach.
Since joining Brighton in September, De Zerbi has captivated Europe’s most prestigious clubs. The Italian manager led the Seagulls to sixth place in the Premier League last season, earning the club European football for the first time in its history, and they are currently eighth in the table.
