Manchester City has signed Argentinian teenager Claudio Echeverri from River Plate for £12.5 million plus add-ons.
Echeverri, an offensive midfielder who looks up to Lionel Messi, will spend the remainder of 2024 in his home country after being loaned back to River Plate.
The 18-year-old, who drew interest from Barcelona last year, has signed a four-and-a-half year contract at the Etihad Stadium and is set to join City in January 2025.
Echeverri will follow in the footsteps of Julian Alvarez, who was also acquired from River and promptly loaned back to the Buenos Aires club before transferring to Manchester.
His manager at River is Martin Demichelis, a former City centre-back.
