While Mayra Bueno Silva is thrilled about the chance to win the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), she isn’t overly optimistic about the fight itself.

With UFC 297 scheduled to take place over two weekends starting on Saturday, January 20, 2024, the world leader in mixed martial arts (MMA) will host its first pay-per-view (PPV) event of 2024 when it returns to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Two major title fights will highlight the card: the Middleweight champion Sean Strickland takes on the world’s top-ranked challenger Dricus Du Plessis in the main event, and Bueno Silva and Raquel Pennington will compete for the vacant women’s Bantamweight belt right before.

Although both competitors have recently experienced the strongest surges of momentum in their respective classes, the Brazilian winner acknowledges that she does not think the fight is excellent.

“I’ll take control of Raquel Pennington,” Bueno Silva declared to MiddleEasy. “I swear to put on a fantastic spectacle. I am aware that no one wants to watch this battle, therefore the paper portrays it as a bad fight. This contest is not good on paper. However, I swear I’ll put on a fantastic performance for everyone.

She said, “Everyone [will] go home and consider the idea that this girl, Mayra Bueno Silva, is the one who has been selected.”

The main surprise in the Bueno Silva vs. Pennington matchup was the absence of Julianna Pena, the former champion, who had ostensibly been guaranteed a berth in either contest. She claims that Pena is still recovering from an injury, though, and that she will fight the victor. Naturally, Bueno Silva anticipates that to be the case and is happy to be here despite her mishap with the now-defunct United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

Bueno Silva remarked, “Raquel is more tough than Julianna.” “Julianna, quick cash.”

She said, “I think she’s tough and she has good boxing, but she doesn’t have good takedowns or jiu-jitsu.” “I believe I am superior to her in every way, but she is strong and difficult to harm. I’m going to knock her out. I firmly think this.

The 32-year-old Bueno Silva is undefeated in her last four bouts since returning to the UFC at bantamweight in April 2022. In contrast, Pennington has won five straight fights since suffering a defeat to Holly Holm in January 2020 during his second career.
