The Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox are expected to be active in free agency and the trade market this offseason. Both teams are looking to strengthen their pitching staff and have been linked to top available arms.
Recently, the Orioles and Red Sox were named as teams that are well-positioned to trade for Garrett Crochet, a talented lefty from the Chicago White Sox.
Crochet was the subject of trade rumors during the season but ended up staying with the White Sox. However, now that the season is over, his market has heated up again.
After an All-Star season, teams are eager to acquire Crochet. The 25-year-old lefty recorded a 3.58 ERA and had a stunning 12.9 SO/9.
The Orioles and Red Sox have the deepest minor league systems in baseball, making them great potential trade partners with the rebuilding White Sox.
The Orioles have six of the top seven prospects as position players, headlined by 22-year-old infielder Coby Mayo and 20-year-old catcher/first baseman Samuel Basallo.
The Red Sox also have a strong farm system, with their top eight prospects being position players. Their group is headlined by four elite prospects: Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, Kristian Campbell, and Kyle Teel.
If either team is willing to offer their top prospects, the White Sox should not hesitate to get a deal done. Crochet would be a valuable addition to either team’s pitching staff.
The Orioles and Red Sox are expected to be aggressive this offseason, and trading for Crochet would be a great move to strengthen their pitching staff.
