Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, is willing to sign a contract this winter that would allow him to join Chelsea in the summer.
For the most part of the season, Osimhen has been at the top of Chelsea’s list of players they would like to add to their roster.
Although Ivan Toney’s age and expensive asking price are perceived as obstacles to a move to Stamford Bridge, they still like him. But sources have now verified news that is certain to thrill Blues fans.
Osimhen would be pleased to complete a pre-agreement this month that would see him formally move in the summer, and he would welcome an approach from the London side.
The star player for Napoli will not be moving this month; a transaction may only be agreed upon during this window through the pre-agreement.
With a release clause of approximately £112 million, the Nigerian international recently inked a new contract that secured Napoli a sizable sum. Napoli will expect payment of this amount if they are to approve a trade this month.
Many Italian sources believe that this is the final season they will witness the 25-year-old wearing the renowned light blue of the Serie A champions and anticipate some movement in the upcoming weeks.
Mikel and Drogba persuade Osimhen
Regular communication has also been maintained with Osimhen and other former Chelsea players in an effort to persuade the striker to support the club’s idea.
One player who has communicated with him is Didier Drogba, and John Obi-Mikel has maintained constant communication with his compatriot.
In addition, Chelsea is under increasing pressure to act quickly because more teams are expected to be vying for Osimhen’s signing in the summer transfer window.
When Mauricio Pochettino’s team recruited Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in the summer of last year, they went through a similar process.
Should the deal go through, Osimhen would rank among the club’s highest-paid players come summertime. Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, has been pressuring the board to give his youthful team more ready-made experience, but this comes at a price.
With seven goals in 13 league games this season, the striker has been in respectable form for his team. He is still a Napoli fan favourite and has also picked up two assists.
