Patrick Cantlay Confrms PGA Tour Loyalty Amid LIV Golf Negotiations
Despite being on the policy board for the PGA Tour this year, Patrick Cantlay has declined offers from LIV Golf, expressing his commitment to the PGA Tour. In an interview with Golf Magazine, Cantlay stated, “I declined offers, pre and post-joining the board. And the most recent offer I got, I declined in the same meeting that my management team brought it to me.” He emphasized that his decision is a personal one based on values and priorities, stating, “I have no plans on joining LIV. I don’t plan on joining LIV. I see myself playing on the PGA Tour.”
While acknowledging that every golfer has a price, Cantlay asserted his current stance. He highlighted Jon Rahm’s surprise move to LIV Golf but maintained his own commitment to the PGA Tour. The negotiations between golf’s leading tours and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund for a potential merger are ongoing, and Cantlay dismissed rumors of individual players dominating the discussions. He explained, “It would be impossible for any one player to take control,” emphasizing the complexities of the negotiation process and the involvement of the investment bank Allen and Co.
