The Boston Celtics are looking to bounce back after a tough loss.
They couldn’t keep the momentum going in Game 2 vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers, and that was despite being big-time favorites.
Nonetheless, history is on their side now.
As pointed out by ESPN Bet on Twitter, teams that have lost Game 2 at home as a favorite and are road favorites in Game 3 are 17-9 since 2003.
The Celtics are currently 7.5-point favorites ahead of this game.
They’re in a familiar position right now.
Joe Mazzulla’s team also lost Game 2 in the first round to the Miami Heat despite being at home and heavy favorites, yet they were able to bounce back and win three consecutive games by a big margin.
They also dominated the Cavaliers in Game 1, and they’re the most established and talented team of the two, so they shouldn’t find much trouble getting past them again.
Then again, they have shown a worrisome tendency to go through the motions, and they cannot be overconfident in the NBA playoffs.
That’s why some people are still hesitant to give them the nod as the favorites to win the NBA championship this season, especially considering the fact that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have fallen short of expectations over and over throughout the course of their careers.
This could be a make-or-break season for the Celtics.
Anything short of a trip to the NBA Finals might force their hand to make some tough decisions, especially with Tatum set to become the highest-paid player in the league in the offseason.
