A number of Crystal Palace players will be sidelined for their FA Cup match against Everton on Thursday night.
By winning and moving on to the fourth round at Selhurst Park, the Blues will look to stop their recent slump in performance. Despite having a fantastic start to December, Sean Dyche’s team has lost their past four games across all competitions. They will be hoping to get back to winning in the FA Cup.
With a 3-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday, Palace ended their eight-game losing streak. Forward Michael Olise scored a brace. But in the closing seconds of the match, the talisman winger suffered a hamstring injury, and Hogson has ruled him out of the match against Everton.
During his news conference, Hodgson stated, “As you probably saw in the game against Brentford, Michael Olise had to come off right at the end.” With the final kick of the game, he felt his hamstring. He will, regrettably, not be playing in this game.
“We’ll have to give him some TLC and hope he recovers quickly. How much time is he missing? I fear I am unable to respond to that one.
Hodgson is hoping Olise’s hamstring problem won’t be as bad as the one that kept him out of the U21 Euros in the summer and the beginning of the season. With six goal contributions in nine games this season, the 22-year-old will undoubtedly be a major loss for the Eagles.
Jordan Ayew, another forward for Palace, will also be absent for the cup matchup with Everton. The 31-year-old has been a constant presence for Palace, but in advance of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations, he will be joining Ghana’s team.
Cheick Douucoure, the club’s player of the season last year, is anticipated to miss the rest of the season due to an Achilles injury in the midfield. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, a young winger, had also started to show promise until he suffered a hamstring injury.
Joel Ward, the right-back for Palace, has missed the team’s last three league games and is still out.
Since joining from Arsenal in the summer, center-back Rob Holding has similarly had trouble staying healthy, only making one cup appearance. Due to a calf injury, first-choice custodian Sam Johnstone is still doubtful, which has allowed Dean Henderson to fill in for the last several weeks.
