‘That’s NONSENSE,’ says Jason Cundy of Liverpool’s ‘overrated’ defence after the Reds’ win over Fulham.

Following Liverpool's 2-1 League Cup semi-final first-leg win against Fulham on Wednesday night, Jason Cundy slammed Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool accomplished it the hard way yet again. This season, coming from behind to win football game.

Jurgen Klopp’s side fell behind due to a Virgil van Dijk error, which allowed Willian to dance through his opponents inside the penalty area and coolly open the scoring.

According to talkSPORT, Jason Cundy believes Liverpool’s star center-back has a habit of these ‘rubbish’ moments, which is why he doesn’t rate him alongside the best like Sol Campbell, John Terry, and Rio Ferdinand.

But the former Chelsea player went a step further, calling Virgil van Dijk “overrated.”

With Liverpool leading the Premier League standings this season, few would dispute that their ice-cold Dutchman is back to his best.

But he did make a mistake yesterday; whether it’s worth verbally abusing him like Jason Cundy is another matter.

Is Virgil van Dijk overhyped?

“He can do this, van Dijk,” Cundy added. “Sometimes he inserts displays that make you think, ‘That’s bit rubbish.'” “Not only does he direct the ball in an unfavourable direction. Personally, believe he is overhyped.

“I don’t believe he can consistently compete with the likes of Sol Campbell, John Terry, and Rio Ferdinand.” Personally, I don’t think he’s even close.

“He’s had two successful seasons. I’m sure many will bring up his injury versus Everton during COVID. It was a tragic accident. He is without a doubt first-rate. But I don’t believe he belongs in the all-time Premier League XI. He’s not even close.”

Liverpool takes advantage of Fulham Many people would have seen Chelsea’s 1-0 first-leg loss to Middelsbrough on Tuesday night. There has already been an upset, and Liverpool fans made certain that they did not become part of it, as averting loss at Craven Cottage will send them to Wembley. In the past, Liverpool has proven their worth by winning these major finals. If they meet Boro in the final, you’d think they’d be clear favourites to add another title to their collection under Klopp.
