Breaking: Ngannou is no longer king of the power punch.

Nobody understands what that implies, but while “The Predator” was on good terms with the UFC, the organisation delighted to promote his scary punching prowess. The UFC Performance Institute (PI) has a machine that absorbs impact and registers how much force went into the hit, and Ngannou has held the record and been the de facto power punching king since 2017.

Not any longer.

UFC colour commentator Joe Rogan sat down with top-ranked Welterweight contender Sean Brady on a recent episode of the JRE MMA Show. The submission ace hasn’t set any punching records that we’re aware of, but according to the duo, emerging Middleweight star Joe Pyfer has broken Francis Ngannou’s record.

“That motherf—ker hits so hard,” stated Rogan about Pyfer. “We should tell everybody that he broke Francis Ngannou’s record on that punch machine.”

“They weren’t trying to give it [the record] to him,” Brady said.

“They didn’t want to register it, and I don’t understand why,” Rogan added. “How come they didn’t want to give it to him?”

“I don’t know,” Brady replied. “He was stating something was strange with the machine… Pyfer done it at least three times! 3 times in a row.”

“Oh, so the guy didn’t want to believe it?” Rogan ended with laughs.

Let’s calibrate the machine and get “Bodybagz” back in front of it! Pyfer may not have Ngannou’s resume, but the 27-year-old prospect has shown the strength in his hands in the cage, stopping eight of his 12 wins via knockout. In February, he’ll compete in his debut main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, against Jack Hermansson.

Ngannou, on the other hand, is still determining how hard he can hit while wearing gloves. He’s projected to earn $20 million when he fights Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia in March. Perhaps that money will help to alleviate the pain of a lost (perhaps unofficially) record?
