The standoff over Tee Higgins’ contract between the Cincinnati Bengals and Higgins is not concerning Chad Johnson.
After speaking with Higgins, the former Bengals player told TMZ he is optimistic the two parties will come to an agreement.
“I believe we can resolve the issue. We
Higgins was signed by the Bengals in March with their franchise tag, but there doesn’t appear to be any movement on a long-term deal. Cincinnati’s initial offer to Higgins, according to Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer, did not even surpass $20 million per season.
On the franchise tag, Higgins is expected to earn $21.8 million in 2024. At least $20 million a season is now made by 18 receivers, and Higgins most likely wants to be the 19th.
Even in the event that a new deal is not signed, Higgins stated he does plan to play for the Bengals this season.
“I do hope so,” Higgins said to WLWT in the previous month. “I’ve grown a love for Cincy that I didn’t think I would, but, you know, man, looking forward to it.”
Higgins took note of
‘ll work things out. It’s just business; that’s how it works. However, he will be fine,” Johnson remarked.

Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson Requests Trade, Eyes New Contract Amid Retirement Decision
Agent Harold Lewis told Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer that defensive end Trey Hendrickson of the Cincinnati Bengals is “hopeful” the team would grant him a contract extension, but he has sought a trade in the event that it does not.
In a previous report published on Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated that Hendrickson asked for a trade because he is “looking for more long-term security than Cincinnati has been willing to offer.”
According to Spotrac, the 29-year-old will receive $14.8 million in base salary in 2024 and $15.8 million in base salary in 2025. He is not expected to become a free agent until after the 2025 season.
For the Bengals, pleas for high-profile trades are nothing new.
Jonah Williams, an offensive lineman, initially asked to be traded before the 2023 season, but he ultimately changed his mind and played in all 17 games for the AFC North squad. He is no longer with Cincinnati, though, as he inked a contract this summer with the Arizona Cardinals.
Entering his final season on a deal, wide receiver Tee Higgins asked to be traded in March.
At the time, Schefter said, “Higgins is disappointed that the team has not held talks about a long-term contract extension since March 2023. He loves Cincinnati and hoped to be with the team for a long time.” He’s prepared to go on to a new residence.”
However, it doesn’t appear that Hendrickson or Higgins will achieve their desire, as Paul Dehner Jr.
Hendrickson last offseason signed a one-year extension that included $21 million in new money, a $5 million raise for 2023, and “deserved security” for the player while the team cleared some cap space. However, it appears that the defensive end is not happy with the current situation. He has been a Pro Bowl player each of his three seasons with Cincinnati, and he was very productive in 2023 with 43 tackles, a career-high 17.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three passes defended while playing in all 17 games.
